Monarch Empress

I'm a fashion design student in my second year, this is one of my projects.
We were told to make anything for wearable art, so I studied the monarch butterfly, the maps and where these creatures travel to.
I wanted to use the ideas of a butterfly that would be seen as beautiful rather than tacky.

Skirt is completely made of paper -layered, cut, and sewn to the stretch fabric bodice I created; each butterfly on the dress is hand made by me using maps that I then stained with tea, cut into different butterfly silhouettes and then I used black marker and sequin thread to finish it off.
